Crystal Peak entered its fourth decade with measured optimism and a legacy of offering clients a varied palette of creative problem solving.

Expansion of public sector work bolstered their capabilities, and its private sector clients continued to evolve.

Through Public Information projects, Crystal Peak maintains certifications as a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB), and a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).

They are also MWBE and ESB certified, and have worked on projects for state-, county-, and city-level governments. To increase Crystal Peak’s desirability for decision makers, Susanne earned a FAA Remote Pilot certificate for drone imaging services.

As a result, Crystal Peak now has the expertise and equipment to deliver 6K resolution video and high-resolution imaging for any application via aerial drone. FAA Licensed pilot Susanne Arens can shoot photos and video from perspectives unreachable to the average person. The results will surprise and delight you.

Crystal Peak was honored in 2021 by the Colorado Springs Business Journal with a ‘Best In Business’ gold award in the Advertising, Marketing & PR Firm category.

They also received awards from UpCity for Best Video Production, Local Excellence in Colorado Springs, and Best of Colorado.

Crystal Peak 40: Peak Performance—An Award-Winning Era

The dawn of the twenty-first century introduced new design, marketing and advertising needs, and Crystal Peak continued to adapt to these changes.

Some staff moved on and were replaced by other talented team members. Their clientele shifted towards the inclusion of public sector relationships, like area school districts and the Colorado education sector, area military bases, municipal Chambers of Commerce and tourism organizations, DOD contractors and aerospace contractors. Additional markets included real estate agents, sports, entertainment, and dental specialties.

Susanne Arens also made ‘giving back’ a strong component of the Crystal Peak company culture.

Crystal Peak formed partnerships with many community charities and non-profit organizations during this decade. They have been proud to offer in-kind services or sponsorships to the American Heart Association, CASA, Peak Vista Community Health, Greccio Housing, the Space Foundation and National Mill Dog Rescue, and others.

As Crystal Peak evolved and gained a sterling reputation throughout the region, they became a trusted source for fuller branding services, marketing strategies and campaigns, videography and video editing, media buys and the introduction of online advertising and social media marketing.

They continued earning awards during the years, such as the Summit International Award, the Hermes Creative Award and the Communicator Award.

After the 2008-2010 global financial crisis, Susanne decided to take the intial steps into an expanding territory.

In 2014 and 2015, Crystal Peak began offering Public Information/Public Relations services to public sector entities, such as CDOT, Colorado municipalities and heavy civil construction contractors.

This bold action presented new opportunities, eventually forming more long term relationships with satisfied clients.

Crystal Peak 40: Climbing Upwards—Diversifying the Agency’s Craft

The mid-90s was a time of growth for Crystal Peak Design.

Their client list was expanding through Colorado and across the U.S., and the number of new projects was booming. Owner Susanne Arens saw the need to bring on more help. Bolstered with the addition of a new junior graphic designer and a print coordinator/specialist, they met the demands of their clientele. Remarkably, some of the client relationships Crystal Peak formed in these years lasted into the 2020s.

Packaging and labeling orders were at an all-time high during these years, but Crystal Peak recognized a need to diversify its client base.

The markets they tapped into include financial institutions, healthcare, hospitality and restaurants, engineering and manufacturing, pet retail, and education. During the late 90s and early 2000s, they entered the world of web site design and development based primarily in HTML. Also, there was an increase of projects that were purely digital, and not necessarily for print or traditional media.

Crystal Peak was honored with the first of many awards for their work, including the MAME Award, the Addy regional award, and the Print Imaging Association Award.

As Crystal Peak handled a more diverse array of projects and time expectations sped up, they invested in more powerful work stations and support equipment. Some examples of this are the Apple iMac G3 and G4, full color printers for proofing, and ZIP and JAZ drives for file storage and transfer.

Crystal Peak also formed relationships with more vendors such as commercial printers, typesetters, writers, photographers, web programmers and web hosts. More staff, including designers, web programmers, sales reps and admin, joined the in-house team through this decade.

Crystal Peak 40: Scaling the Foothills—The Founding Vision

In 1986, Crystal Peak Design was founded by Susanne Arens.

During the early days of the business, Susanne was busy with freelance projects for an array of local clients. These involved traditional graphic design, illustration, darkroom film processing and pre-press techniques. She produced signs, banners, logos, business cards and stationery, busines forms and other print ads and collateral.

In the 1990s, Susanne struck up business partnerships that opened the door to projects for labels, packaging design and flexographic printing.

Most of this work was geared towards nutritional supplements, along with other consumer packaged goods. Based on the increase of work, Susanne hired her first employees, an administrative assistant and a junior graphic designer.

During the early 90s, Crystal Peak entered the digital age of design by acquiring its first desktop computer — a Commodore Amiga.

With this new resource, Susanne could provide typesetting services and more advanced art generation and pre-press processes. As time went on and needs expanded, she invested in an Apple Macintosh Quadra.

Crystal Peak will be closed during the Christmas and New Year holiday. We will officially close at 5pm on Tuesday, December 23rd, and reopen for business on Friday morning, January 2nd, 2026.

Electric Safari at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the only place in Colorado Springs where you can see over 85 one-of-a-kind light sculptures while celebrating the season with the animals at the same time! Prepare to have your holiday spirit set aglow with the Bridge of Lights holiday event at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. The magnificent suspension bridge is bedecked with thousands of lights, twinkling and winking at you for the festive season. As you cozy up in your own ride, you can treat yourself to hot cocoa and cookies, available for purchase. It’s the perfect way to stay snug and satisfied as you embark on this one-of-a-kind journey.

Emma Crawford Coffin Races

October 25, 2025 – 12-3:00 p.m., Parade begins down Manitou Ave. at 12:00 p.m., followed by races.

Enjoy a full day of spooky fun at the annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races in Manitou Springs, featuring impersonators dressed as late local legend, Emma Crawford, riding on coffin-like karts pulled by teams “mourners,” each vying for awards such as "Best Emma" and "Most Creative Coffin." Accompanying events include the Emma Crawford Estate Sidewalk Sale and a Victorian Wake at Miramont Castle held the evening before the races.

Pumpkin Fest at Venetucci Farm

Venetucci Farm has been known for pumpkins for over 50 years. Keep the tradition going and bring your family to pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch! Enjoy treats like apple cider and pumpkin muffins at the outdoor pavilion with picnic tables. Shop for fall decor at the farm store, play games like giant cornhole and Jenga, pet farm animals on Saturdays and Sundays, visit the makers market and take fall photos. Wear your costumes to trick or treat at the farm on October 26 and 27!
